This is a very intriguing study in motifs and shapes. I like the stark color, save for the red of the Queen's skin, hair, nails and ornaments, the eyes of the crows, and the suits on the playing cards. And I also like the 'hidden' heart formed by the Queen's skirt, which is a clever visual trick, particularly the little 'wings' extended out to either side of the shape by the tattered ends of the Queen's dress.

I have a couple of problems with this, though, because I thought it could have been executed somewhat better. The background is lacking; the John Tenniel illustrations of the original Alice in Wonderland, and even the Tim Burton film, make it clear that Wonderland is a lush and lively place, and invariably rural-looking. Why are the Queen's surroundings so empty? Why are the only recognizable objects in the picture the oddly artificial-looking structures beneath her, which don't seem to suit the gothic mood of the piece?

I think more might have been done with the crows as well. They're just flying around back there; they don't even form a flock. Something you could have done differently would be to have them carrying the loose ends of the Queen's gown, which would involve them further in the image and emphasize the Queen's mastery over her surroundings.

On the whole, though, I think this is a nice effort.
